Dr. Alexandra P. Marques

Talk title: Dermal Extracellular Matrix in Wound Healing: Applications And Therapeutic Potential

Alexandra P. Marques holds a Habilitation in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells, with a specialization in Stem cells (2020), a PhD on Materials Science and Technology – Biomaterials (2004) and a BSc in Biochemistry (1997). She is Coordinating Investigator in the 3B’s Research Group, University of Minho, Portugal.

She is Associate Editor of the Skin Physiology Section of Frontiers in Physiology and is on the editorial board of several journals.

Dr. Marques is an active member of several international scientific organizations, including the European Wound Management Association (EWMA), the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS), the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) and the Portuguese Society for Stem Cells and Cellular Therapy (SPCE-TC). At EWMA, she has served as honorary secretary, a member of the executive and scientific committees, and presently chairs the Translational Research Committee.

Her research focuses on developing advanced in vitro models to deepen the understanding of mechanisms underlying skin conditions and diseases. By integrating stem cells and biomaterials, she has been devising innovative strategies for skin wound healing, with recent efforts centered on the role of the extracellular matrix in wound repair and skin diseases pathophysiology.
